FREE SPEECH RESET:
A 60-DAY CHALLENGE FOR CHANGE
The Free Speech Reset is a national alumni-led campaign calling on colleges and universities to restore their commitment to free expression. Over 60 days, alumni groups across the country will push their alma maters to adopt seven core reforms that strengthen speech rights, clarify protest rules, and foster open debate on campus.
Why Now?
Shout-downs, vague policies, and ideological bias have undermined trust in higher education. The public is watching. Boards are shifting. Presidents are resigning. This is a rare window to reset the culture. Alumni must act now—before the fall semester begins in full.
Each group is challenged to complete at least 3 of the 7 action areas between August 1 and September 30. You’ll get support, templates, and national recognition. All actions are designed to be doable by small teams with limited time.
The Free Speech Reset Goals:
Expand speech and protest education starting with orientation
Demand clear, published rules for protest and penalties
Call for transparent, fair policies around guest speakers
Support zero-tolerance policies for shout-downs
Push for institutional neutrality on unrelated political issues
Promote public civil discourse through debate or events
